The GRE is a standardized test for graduates, designed to assess verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills, regardless of academic background. Administered by ETS, it is typically taken on a computer at Prometric centers.
The test includes six sections: one analytical writing section (with issue and argument tasks), two verbal, two quantitative, and one unscored experimental or research section in random order. The exam lasts about 3 hours 45 minutes, with short breaks between sections
In addition to the General Test, there are seven GRE Subject Tests in areas like Biology, Chemistry, Literature, Math, Physics, and Psychology. Each test is 170 minutes long.
